Sleep Studies
At the Cpapshop, we offer two types of sleep studies
Our Level 3 Somfit Home Sleep Study and a Level 2 Medicare-funded Test
What is the level 3 sleep study?
The Level 3 At-Home Somfit Sleep Study is designed to identify Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and determine its severity. The Somfit Level 3 Sleep Study is a simple single electrode study attached to the patient’s forehead and is conducted in the comfort of their own home. No referral is required for the level 3 sleep testing and the report is analyzed by a sleep physician. The Somfit test incurs an out-of-pocket cost of $99.
The device will record:
- Automatic Hypnogram
- Blood Oxygen Saturation
- EEG, EMG, EOG
- Heart rate and HRV
- Snoring
- Body movement and position
- No Doctors referral required please fill in the patient consent and detail form below and submit.
What is the level 2 sleep study?
Level 2 home sleep studies are the most accurate home-based sleep studies are government-supported with a Medicare rebate and are only available for patients who have a referral from a GP or Specialist. A Level 2 home sleep study includes similar physiologic measurements as a laboratory (inpatient or overnight) sleep study, but you sleep in the comfort of your own home. The Nox is a non-invasive study that records various biological processes that take place while you sleep. These include:
- Body oxygen level by measuring light transmission through the finger with an “oximeter”
- Airflow through the nose
- Chest, abdomen and limb movements
- Heart activity (ECG)
- Brain activity (EEG)
- Muscle activity (EMG)
- Eye activity (EOG)
Please be advised that we operate according to guidelines set by Medicare. Medicare will rebate for only one portable or home study test in twelve months.
How to prepare for a Level 2 Sleep Study
We ask that all patients coming in for a Level 2 Sleep Study come showered and wearing clothes they would be happy to sleep in as you will not be able to change after the electrodes and leads have been attached.
Avoid using any creams or lotions as they can impact the ability of the electrodes to adhere to the skin and remove nail polish on one index finger as it can interfere with the oximeter readings.
It is important that you stick to your normal night time routine including sleep and wake times and avoid consuming alcohol and caffeine close to bed as they can affect your sleep.
Do you need a referral for a Sleep Study?
Yes, a referral from your GP is required for the Medicare Level 2 Sleep Studies as they are funded by Medicare, and you must meet certain criteria for this to happen. A referral template can be found under the sleep study tab above, you can download this and fill it out with your GP.
